Tonio Lechner is active in all areas of the firm’s renowned specialty ship finance. His work focuses on advising in the sale, purchase, and registration of ships domestically and internationally. He also has comprehensive experience in the purchase, sale and registration of inland waterway vessels.

Tonio Lechner is the author of articles on competition and EU law in the field of technical-nautical services, particularly pilotage and contractual transfer of ownership of sea and inland waterway vessels. He is a member of the German Society for International Law of the Sea, and the Nautischer Verein Hamburg.

Short Biography

Tonio Lechner studied law with an emphasis on European Law at the universities of Göttingen and Hamburg. During his studies he worked in the legal department of a terminal operator in the port of Hamburg. After graduation he continued working for the terminal while writing his doctoral thesis on “The law of the ports of Europe”. He completed his legal education in Berlin, where he received his law degree in 1998. Tonio Lechner joined the firm in 1998 and became a partner in 2003.
